Greek Authorities Fine Procter & Gamble and Unilever for Excessive Greed

Greek authorities fined multinational companies Procter & Gamble and Unilever for excessive greed by 2 million euros. The measure was confirmed by the country’s Minister of Development Kostas Skrekas, who clarified that corporations unreasonably inflated prices. About this today, November 2, reports Prime agency.

The company will split the fine amount equally.

“The maximum fine of €1 million for each of the two multinational companies was imposed following the completion of an investigation by the inter-agency market watchdog group. The fines relate to a violation of Article 54 of Law 5045/29−07−2023 on the fight against unfair profits,” the department confirmed.

The Greek minister also recalled that no one and nothing should be above the law.

“We are determined to enforce the law to prevent profiteering and encourage healthy competition for the benefit of the Greek family. Everyone must understand the criticality of the situation and the difficulty of households in obtaining basic consumer goods,” Skrekas said.

The head of the department also reminded all companies that they should not seek profit during a difficult time for all European families.

“The fight against inflation, and especially the inflation of greed, is first and foremost a matter of social responsibility, but also of ensuring social cohesion. Inspections will continue and fines will be issued without hesitation. The battle with high prices continues. We are not complacent,” he added.

After paying the fines, companies will be required to correct prices in stores so that Greek citizens do not overpay.
