Greater caution against bird flu – Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district

(BZ). The veterinary authority calls for greater caution against bird flu in the region. The risk is currently high due to bird migration. Hobbyists are advised to prevent wild birds from accessing barns and aviaries, only feed them in the barn if they are kept outdoors, and to cover open water areas with tape. Furthermore, according to the authority, human access to the animals should be limited and stable clothing and shoes should be used. Last year there was a serious epidemic which also affected the Freiburg region. Laying hens from an infected farm in North Rhine-Westphalia had been sold and were spreading the disease. All infected animals had to be killed.
