Great uncertainty due to the new Corona regulation in amateur sports – Corona virus –

Due to the new regulation of the federal government, the entire amateur sport is facing uncertain times.

A few days ago the amended version of the Corona regulation came into effect. One point in particular causes headaches for officials, associations and athletes: Currently, only sporting events – both “indoor” and “outdoor” – with a maximum of 25 people (including substitute players, etc.) are permitted.

Professional operations and top-class sports are excluded from this, but the new regulation hits amateur sports particularly hard. But it also affects pre-season games. Wiener Austria had to cancel two planned test matches against regional league teams.

preparation started

In the Vorarlberg football club, for example, teams like VfB Hohenems have already started their preparations. If everything goes according to plan, the first games in the VN.at Eliteliga Vorarlberg and the Vorarlbergliga will take place on March 19, 2022. For the state league and the five state classes, the second half of the season starts on April 2nd, 2022

Horst Lumper: “Preparatory games are not possible at the moment”

“Hopefully this new regulation doesn’t last too long,” says VFV President Horst Lumper in an interview with VOL.AT. “Of course we accept these regulations and hope soon that the around 70 Ländleklubs will be able to play test matches. Under these conditions, no preparatory games are currently possible,” says VFV long-term president Horst Lumper. Training in the youth and combat team area are feasible. Many football clubs in the country already want to carry out the first form checks in the next few days, but the active players are condemned to watch.

Game and training operations are affected

However, these measures also affect the games and training sessions in the lower leagues – from basketball to ice hockey, handball, fistball, football and volleyball – are affected just as much as the preparatory games of Bundesliga soccer teams against lower-league clubs. “Since the typical team size is currently not taken into account – in contrast to previous regulations – the substitute players are currently also to be included in the maximum number,” the Austrian Ministry of Health responded to a tip from Sport Austria.

Criticism from Sport Austria President Hans Niessl

Sport Austria President Hans Niessl says: “Austria’s sport is committed to fighting the pandemic and has always followed the rules. It is good and right that sport generally remains open, and it is particularly welcome that the mask requirement that now applies outdoors at The practice of sport is omitted, but the point of the group size makes the sport operation excessively difficult! In certain cases, this leads to its cessation! That cannot be in the intention of the inventor.”

Niessl is hoping for a rethink

Sport Austria” is convinced that organized sport, in addition to the 2G rule and corresponding contact tracing, also has adequately functioning prevention concepts. On average, only around 0.1 percent of corona cases in the past few months can be attributed to sport. For this reason, President Niessl still hopes that there will be a rethink in the responsible Ministry of Health. “The number of participants typical for a sport must be allowed again!”

Praise for quarantine recommendation

On the other hand, there is praise for the quarantine recommendation from the Minister of Health. This makes sports easier. Those who have been vaccinated three times are no longer considered contact persons, which is why they no longer have to be quarantined. You can also test yourself after the fifth day. “Here, the overall social situation was taken into account and a practical recommendation was made, but the 25 rule for sport was not thought through to the end,” states President Hans Niessl.

“Mask duty” for school sports

On the other hand, when it comes to the subject of “obligation to wear a mask”, Sport Austria finds a paradox between the regulation relating to sport and the order from the Ministry of Education for school sport. In contrast to mass and top-level sport, children and young people are required to wear masks in physical education classes, although they have to take the corona test three times a week. “It is to be welcomed that the education sector has recognized that sport is important for the development of the students and that it continues to be possible despite Omicron, but I hope that the obligation to wear a mask when doing sports will be reconsidered. That is a big physical one burden for our children,” said Sport Austria President Hans Niessl. (VOL.AT)
