A major protest took place on Sunday local time in San Antonio de los Banos, a city of about 50,000 people southwest of Havana. Thousands of youth-dominated demonstrators chanted insults against President Miguel Diaz-Canel.

“We are not afraid,” shouted the demonstrators.
“I was just walking through town looking to buy some food and there were a lot of people there, some with [memegang] signs, protesting,” local resident Claris Ramirez told the news agency Reuters by telephone, which was launched Monday (12/7/2021).
“They protested the blackout [listrik], there is no medicine,” he said.
