On March 16, the winners of the annual music recording award “Golden Microphone” were announced live from the Media Center of the Riga Art and Media Technical School. The award for a lifetime contribution to the development of Latvian music was presented to the children’s vocal studio “Knīpas un knauķi”. The only musician to receive several “Golden Microphone” statuettes at the award ceremony is rapper Ansis, whose album “Great Art” was honored as the Best Hip-Hop Music Album of 2020 and Album of the Year, the organizers said.

The annual music record awards were presented for the 25th time, and a record number of recordings were submitted to the competition this year. The “Golden Microphone” figurines made by metal artist Armands Jēkabsons were presented in 22 categories.

The ceremony was performed by Maestro Raimonds Pauls together with Guntis Skrastiņš, the group “Instruments” and the diva Linda Leen. Aija Andrejeva, Agnese Rakovska and Kristīne Pāže performed the most nominated song (in three categories in total) “Happiness This”. The premieres of Ivo Fomina’s song “You are me” and Aija Andrejeva’s and Zebrene’s song “Shaman” were performed.

Samanta Tīna premiered the stage premiere of this year’s Eurovision song “The Moon is Rising”, while rapper Ozols and rolande če looked back on their creative work for twenty years. Chris Noah, “The Presence of Jānis Ruņģis”, debutant Loreta Reide and a combination of rock music with hip-hop – “Nova Koma” together with rappers Edavārds and Idus Abra also performed.

The winners were presented by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Latvia Nauris Puntulis, long-time leader of the “Golden Microphone” ceremony Fredis, representative of “Radio Skonto” Valdis Melderis, TV3 air personalities Kristīne Garklāva and Arnis Krauze, “Gamma’s Night” winner in the category “Best Actor” . Musicians who have received several “Golden Microphone” awards such as “Brainstorm”, “Iron Wolf”, Arstarulsmirus, “Iļģi”, Normunds Rutulis, Roberts Gobziņš, Lauris Reiniks, as well as the winner of the previous ceremony in the category debut – Patrisha, also honored their colleagues. The musicians were also greeted by the executive director of LaIPA Liena Grīna, representatives of the Radio Star FM and the portal Tvnet.

The annual music recording award “Golden Microphone” is organized by the Latvian Association of Sound Producers, Publishers and Distributors (LaMPA) and “Micrec PM” in cooperation with the Latvian Association of Performers and Producers (LaIPA) and the Ministry of Culture, as well as with “Elektrum” and Vivus.lv .
