Grass Market Flats Full of Quarantined Indonesians, Bus Queues Snaking

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

A video showing the bus line up close Grass Market Flats, South Jakarta circulating on social media. The bus contains Indonesian citizens who will undergo quarantine after returning from abroad.

However, the capacity of the Pasar Rumput Flats is full and it is no longer possible to accept Indonesian citizens for quarantine. Bus queues ensued.

“The capacity there is 5,500 at the Grass Market. By the time the group arrived the position was full,” said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Zulpan when contacted, Thursday (16/12).

Zulpan did not know for sure how many people were in the group. Zulpan only ensures that they will continue to undergo the quarantine process in accordance with applicable regulations.

The group was diverted to another location to undergo a health quarantine process.

“So they were completely diverted to other shelters, namely Pademangan and Wisma Athletes,” said Zulpan.

“But they don’t go there, it doesn’t mean they disperse immediately or without quarantine. But they are diverted to another place because the place there is full,” he said.

In the video narration circulating on social media, it is said that there were five group buses containing aircraft from abroad that got off at Soekarno Hatta Airport on Wednesday (15/12) at around 16.00 WIB.

The group was then taken to the Grass Market Flats to undergo quarantine. However, as of Thursday (16/12) at 10.30 WIB, the passengers were still in the bus which was parked in the yard and not dropped off at the Flat.

According to the applicable regulations, Indonesian citizens who have just returned from abroad must undergo a 10-day quarantine. There are quarantine places provided by the government, there are also hotels that are recommended but must be paid for at their own expense.

In order to prevent the spread of the Omicron variant of the corona virus, the government will implement a 14-day quarantine for Indonesian citizens. However, this only applies to Indonesian citizens from countries that have detected the Omicron variant.
