Graphics issues with Windows 10 on Macs with AMD GPU

March 24, 2020 –
Macs with AMD graphics cards appear to experience graphics problems. But there doesn’t seem to be a real solution.

Mac owners who run Windows 10 on their computer may apparently experience graphics problems. Macs are affected in which a Radeon GPU from AMD is installed. On such devices, the right half of the screen apparently flickers and the display is distorted. The problem can even occur across the board on external displays. Or the Windows 10 installer complains that the Mac is not ready for Windows 10 because the AMD graphics driver is out of date.

Apple advises in a support document to update the AMD graphics driver or to reduce the resolution of the affected display.

“Heise.de” writes on the subject however, that Apple’s recommendations are only of limited help. One could only look for new drivers if Windows 10 was successfully installed, and the latest Apple Boot Camp Software Graphics Drivers from AMD would come from the end of last year. And the workaround only works for external displays.

Apparently quite a lot of Macs and especially the Pro models are affected by the problem.
