Graphene batteries, which will charge much faster than regular lithium-ion batteries, will be available soon. Startup Real Graphene from California (USA) began production of new batteries. This was reported by the publication “High Tech +” with reference to Digital Trends.
The company decided to add a little graphene to conventional lithium-ion batteries: the graphene layer and graphene are mixed in lithium. This allows you to conduct electricity better and reduce battery heating. In addition, the time to fully charge a standard battery is reduced to 20 minutes, and its lifespan is extended to 1,500 recharge cycles.
However, graphene is a very expensive material, which leads to a significant increase in the cost of the battery. In particular, due to the high cost of the battery, a cell phone can go up by 30%. Real Graphene expects to enter into contracts with smartphone manufacturers and, ideally, company representatives see the possibility of supplying a small batch of batteries for premium devices.
Meanwhile, sales of the Power Real Graphene external battery for charging mobile devices have already begun, but so far the portable charging does not show any outstanding features.
According to Real Graphene CEO Samuel Gong, the next generation of powerbanks will boast cool features: the G-100 model with a 10,000 milliamp-hour battery will charge in 20 minutes, and the G-100 Max with a 20,000 milliamp-hour battery in 40 minutes. Their production will begin thanks to crowdfunding campaigns.
At the same time, Real Graphene is working on the creation of graphene batteries for smart watches and golf carts.
