New York (Lampost.co) — A grandmother from New York experienced two of the world’s biggest outbreaks during her life, namely the Spanish flu and covid-19. Interestingly, in the covid-19 pandemic, he had twice successfully recovered from the corona virus.

Angelina Friedman, recently made headlines this year, after being declared cured of covid-19. This is the second battle against the respiratory disease, after celebrating his 102nd birthday.

“He not only beat Covid-19 at the age of 101, but he beat it at the age of 102 years,” said Joanne Merola, daughter of Friedman, told WPIX.

Merola said she received a call from the North Westchester Center for Restorative Care and Therapy, where her mother currently lives.

“I received a call at the end of October if my mother tested positive for Covid-19 again,” said Merola.

The news comes just six months after Friedman was first diagnosed with the coronavirus, a disease that is indeed dangerous for the elderly.

“The mother had symptoms, fever and dry cough. They (the nursing home staff) thought that she might have the flu,” explained Merola.

And on November 17, after being retested, Friedman was declared cured of Covid-19. According to Merola, his mother did have a strong determination to live.

“He’s not the oldest survivor of covid-19, but he’s probably the oldest who has survived twice,” said Merola.

Friedman’s second pandemic

Friedman was diagnosed with the coronavirus for the first time in March, after he was admitted to a local hospital for a minor medical procedure.

Then, he spent a week in hospital before being transferred back to the nursing home, where he remained in isolation until April 20, when he tested negative for the virus.

“He’s not human. He has superhuman DNA,” Merola said.

What Merola said was not without foundation, his mother also had cancer all his life. Friedman is the last surviving of 11 children in his family.

“My mother survived. She survived a miscarriage, internal bleeding and cancer. She and my father had cancer at the same time. She survived, and my father did not,” Merola recalls.

More than 102 years ago, Friedman’s mother died giving birth to him on a cruise ship from Italy to New York. Friedman’s mother’s death amid the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic, at the time, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) killed more than 50 million people.

And in this pandemic, recorded until Wednesday, there have been more than 13,935,500 cases of covid-19 and 272,600 deaths from coronavirus-related diseases in the United States.
