Grand Prix of Spain: times, weather forecast and information

The race weekend at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain will start next Friday. It is therefore high time to list all the important information. What time does the Grand Prix of Spain? What are the weather forecasts? And how Max Verstappen in the past in Barcelona?

Circuit de Catalunya information

The race weekend in Spain will be finished at the Circuit de Catalunya as usual. This course is located in the village of Montmeló, just outside the big city of Barcelona. The circuit was completed in 1991 and is 4.7 kilometers long. Nigel Mansell was in his WilliamsRenault the first driver to win here. The last victory, that of 2019, is in the name of Lewis Hamilton in his Mercedes. The Circuit de Catalunya has 16 corners and the fastest lap ever driven is in the name of Daniel Ricciardo, who recorded a 1: 18.441 in his Red Bull in 2018. The track is known to be tough on the tires.

Timetable Grand Prix of Spain

On Friday, the race weekend in Catalonia will kick off with the first free practice. It will start at 11:00 AM and last until 12:30 PM. The second free practice follows in the afternoon at 3:00 PM and lasts until 4:30 PM. On Saturday we have the third and last free practice between 12:00 and 1:00 PM, before we start qualifying at 3:00 PM. The Grand Prix will be held on Sunday at 3:10 PM. The race lasts 66 racing laps or a maximum of two hours.

Weather forecasts in Spain

It promises to be a very hot weekend in the Spanish sun. The temperature will be much higher than last weekend in Great Britain. In Montmeló, where the circuit is located, the temperature can reach about 31 degrees Celsius this weekend. The entire weekend it remains hot, sunny and dry. There is approximately wind force 2 to 3 and there is hardly any chance of rain.

Opportunities Max Verstappen in Spain

It should come as no surprise that Max Verstappen will always have good memories of the Grand Prix of Spain. The Dutchman booked his first-ever Grand Prix victory here in 2016. Verstappen had just switched from then Red Bull to Red Bull Racing and was the youngest driver ever (18 years and 228 days) to achieve a victory in Formula 1. Verstappen was able to take full advantage of the collision between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg on the Circuit de Catalunya, both of whom dropped out with damage.

In the following years, Verstappen got a lot more difficult in Spain. In 2017 he had to throw the towel after just one lap due to damage to his car. In 2018 he managed to finish third, but he had to acknowledge his superior in both Mercedes. Last year, when riding the Honda engine for the first time, he did not get further than fourth place. Mercedes were again, and so were Sebastian Vettel from Ferrari, too fast.

We can therefore say that the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona has been a great job for Mercedes in recent years. However, Verstappen does not seem to have no chance this weekend. Mercedes had problems with its tires in the past two races. This, in combination with a high track and outside temperature, does not play into them at all. Because the circuit in Spain is also tough on the tires and it is also sweltering hot, Verstappen may still have a real chance of victory.
