The dancing Kamala Harris

Can you say nowadays that people, for example in Brazil, have more rhythm in their blood than the average Swiss? No, say left-wing experts. This would convey colonial racist stereotypes.

Yvonne Feri triggered a small wave of indignation. In the “arena” of Swiss television, she said on Friday that US Vice President Kamala Harris could dance well because, as a “dark-skinned person, she had the rhythm in her blood.”

The outcry from leftists and feminists followed immediately: Racist! Embarrassing! It was clear to everyone: the SP National Councilor had meant it neither angry nor racist, but alluded to the fact that Harris had even danced during the election campaign.

The question arises: Are there still differences in this world? And can you name it? Anyone who has been to Brazil, for example, knows: the average Carioca dances better than the average Aargau resident. The Kenyans tend to be better long-distance runners than the Burmese. And the Thais cook better curry than the Finns.

Maybe it helps if the politically indignant people dance the samba themselves. Then at the latest you will notice: It’s not that easy with this rhythm! Especially when you don’t have it in your blood.
