NEW YORK — On Wednesday, Governor Kathy Hochul announced $31.5 million in funding for the program Pathways in Technology from New York State that will prepare thousands of New York students for the highly skilled jobs of the future in technology, manufacturing, health care and finance.
This investment funds regional associations that respond to the increased need for better access to post-secondary opportunities primarily for students at academic and economic risk and works to strengthen the pipeline between local talent and industries with a favorable employment outlook. Each partnership will include K-12, higher education, and business/employer partners.
“Early workforce development and career mentoring allow students to discover their passions and talents, develop their skills, and build relationships with mentors who can guide their career paths and prepare them for the jobs of tomorrow,” the governor said. Hochul. “This program will help ensure that thousands of New York students can reach their full potential and gives employers access to a wealth of talent who can take their companies to the next level.”
The program Pathways in Technology of New York State (NYS P-TECH) incorporates an integrated 4-6 year program that combines high school, college, and vocational training. The program is a public-private partnership designed to provide students with mentorship and opportunities to learn through workplace visits, speakers, and internships.
Students are eligible to receive an associate’s degree in a high-tech field and are first in line for a job with participating business partners after completing the program. Through these programs of study in high-salary, high-skill, and high-demand career areas, students will be able to earn college credit toward an associate’s degree. Career paths begin in the ninth grade and include workplace learning and high school and college courses. The pathway provides a continuous sequence of study that spans two years of post-secondary career and technical education culminating in an associate’s degree.

New York City Public Schools – Urban Assembly for Emergency Management – $2,467,640 in collaboration with CUNY Borough of Manhattan Community College y Northwell Health
New York City Public Schools – Urban Assembly New York Harbor School – $2,588,895 in collaboration with SUNY Maritime College and the Billion Oyster Project
