Government of Chubut Reminds Families of Importance of Completing School Vaccination Calendar for Girls and Boys to Recover Vaccination Coverage

The initiative reaches girls and boys aged 5 and 11, and is part of a broader strategy that seeks to recover vaccination coverage at all ages.

With the objective of complying with the national and provincial laws related to the Comprehensive Protection of the Rights of Boys, Girls and Adolescents, the Government of Chubut, through the provincial Health Secretariat, reminded the population of the importance of completing the Calendar of Vaccination of school-age girls and boys.

In this regard, the provincial representative of the Immunization Program, Daniela Carreras, who depends on the Provincial Directorate of Prevalent Pathologies and Epidemiology, said that “all vaccination centers in the province have the vaccines from the school calendar, both those in the main cities and those of rural hospitals, so families can go to the nearest vaccination center at any time,” and added that “school vaccination promptly reaches girls and boys who are 5 years old and girls and boys who are 11 years old.” ”.

In addition, he also explained that “the initiative is part of a broader provincial strategy that seeks to recover vaccination coverage at all ages.”

Multiple benefits

Likewise, the provincial representative indicated that “school entry vaccines not only prevent or avoid the transmission of diseases that are still current in the national territory, such as Whooping Cough and Mumps, but they are also key to keeping our country free of pathologies.” such as Measles, Rubella and Poliomyelitis, and help keep diseases such as Diphtheria and Tetanus under control.”

It is worth remembering that a couple of weeks ago a national epidemiological alert was issued following the confirmation of a case of measles in the province of Salta, in a 19-month-old child who was not vaccinated against this disease.

In this way, “by vaccinating our children we not only benefit them, and the entire family, but also the rest of the community,” said Carreras, who also stressed that “the vaccines in the Vaccination Schedule are mandatory, “They are free and are applied in all health centers and public hospitals in the country.”

Vaccination schedules

On the other hand, the provincial health portfolio recalled that the vaccines that 5-year-old girls and boys should receive are the following: the Triple Viral vaccine, which prevents Measles, Rubella and Mumps; the Triple Bacterial Cellular Vaccine, which prevents Diphtheria, Tetanus and Whooping Cough; the reinforcement of the Salk vaccine, which prevents Poliomyelitis; and the second dose of the Chickenpox vaccine.

For their part, 11-year-old boys and girls must receive the Acellular Triple Bacterial vaccine, which prevents Diphtheria, Tetanus and Whooping Cough; the vaccine against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), which prevents cervical cancer in girls and other cancers related to HPV in both women and men, whose schedule was modified this year and became a single dose; and, finally, a dose of the Meningococcus vaccine.
