Government employees working in a dilapidated building in the Indian state of Telangana wear motorcycle helmets to prevent concrete slabs from the roof from falling on their heads.
A video clip of several employees of the so-called “Development Office” in the state, wearing helmets while working, went viral.
Ironically, the Development Bureau is tasked with developing the area by providing internet to the villagers and setting up infrastructure, but the workplace is in such a terrible state that workers have to protect themselves from falling debris.
Local media reported that the staff demanded to be moved to a safer office building after a colleague suffered brain damage when a cement slab from the roof fell on top of him.
The office ceiling has been suffering from water leakage since last year and is now in a dilapidated state. The humidity caused pieces of the ceiling to fall off, and the staff had no choice but to protect themselves in some way.
After the video went viral, government officials in Telangana announced that the workers in the Development Office would be moved to another building “soon”.
