Government disburses $ 1,200 check for non-filing citizens



The government of Puerto Rico began today, Friday, to disburse the payment of $ 1,200 of Economic Impact in aid for the pandemic of the COVID-19, approved under the CARES Law, for those citizens who are not required to file Income Tax Returns.

The governor Wanda Vázquez Garced reported in a press release that this deposit will impact 327,660 people.

“After two weeks of starting the registration process for citizens who are not required to file the Income Tax Return, with great satisfaction I report that we made payments of $ 440,952,330 to 327,660 people. These are the first $ 1,200 disbursements from the third phase of the financial aid distribution plan that we started in May and will continue through December. ”, established the president.

Vázquez Garced noted that, with the new payments, $ 1,858,721,360 has already been distributed to 1,176,652 families.

“We recognize the pressing need of thousands of families awaiting this help and our priority is to distribute the funds in a timely manner to alleviate the impact that this health emergency has had on the population. In this third phase we are attending to the requests of Social Security beneficiaries, the PAN, pensioners, veterans, university students, among others, “stressed Vázquez Garced.

For his part, the secretary of EstateFrancisco Parés Alicea recalled that Since May 29, the link is available for these citizens to submit basic personal information and bank account, in order to receive payment.

Once the application is submitted, the Department validates the information with the Social Security Administration and the Federal Internal Revenue Service, as required by the CARES Law. Parés Alicea stressed that both the process for individuals to enter their bank account information and the disbursement of Payments under the CARES Law, will continue uninterrupted until December 31, 2020.
