Government confirms that State of the Catastrophe will be extended for the National Holidays

This Thursday, the Minister of the Interior, Victor Perez, confirmed that the government will extend the State of Catastrophe, currently in force due to the coronavirus pandemic and that it was initially in force until September 14.

“It will be renewed for the 14th, the State of Catastrophe must be renewed until 24-25”Pérez told Cooperativa radio.

He explained that “we have a concern in National Holidays and As we want the plebiscite to be as safe as possible, all the experts and indicators show that special care must be taken during National Holidays to avoid major sprouts; we all know how Chileans like to celebrate National Holidays ”.

“We all know how we like to celebrate, how we like to go out, and that can generate difficulties in the pandemic,” he added, noting that “we have a democratic process to take care of.”. The latter, in reference to the plebiscite of next October 25.

It should be remembered that President Sebastián Piñera decreed a State of Catastrophe for 90 days on March 18, which was renewed for another 90 days on June 16.
