Government agrees: Travel warning for more than 160 countries by the end of August! – News

Traveling in the Corona summer remains a complicated and uncertain matter: the German government wants to extend the travel warning for more than 160 countries outside the European Union until August 31.

According to information from the German Press Agency, exceptions should be made for individual countries that meet certain criteria.

According to the Reuters news agency, the Federal Foreign Office and the Interior Ministry also agreed to continue strongly advising against cruises. The federal cabinet should approve the regulation on Wednesday.

Countries outside the European Union also include major travel destinations, above all Turkey as the third most popular holiday destination for Germans.

► According to Reuters, the federal government points out that the situation in many countries around the world is completely different. This affects both the corona infection numbers, hygiene rules, test capacities, the transparency of the infection process in different parts of the country as well as the capacities of the health system and options for return travel. Therefore, after July 1st, it should be checked individually for which states the travel warning can be canceled.

Last Friday, the European Union decided to gradually remove travel restrictions for countries outside the international community from July.

Foreign Minister Heiko Maas (SPD) had previously issued a travel warning for all around 200 countries in the world after the outbreak of the corona pandemic – an unprecedented step. Up to this point, only in the event of a danger to life and limb, for example in war zones, were warned against travel, so that free cancellation was possible.

Last week, the federal cabinet decided to lift the travel warning for 31 European countries. These include Germany’s 26 partner countries in the European Union, Great Britain, which has just left the EU, and the four countries of the Schengen area that are not subject to border controls, which are not members of the EU: Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. For 29 countries, the cancellation will take place on June 15, for Spain and Norway later, because entry restrictions still apply there.

In future there will only be so-called travel information for these countries. It then provides information about the country-specific risks. This can also mean that tourist trips are not recommended. In the UK, for example, this should be the case as long as there is still a 14-day quarantine requirement for all travelers.
