Göttingen flippo Baskets suffer third defeat within a week

For the flippo Baskets BG 74 it was a used week in terms of results. After the defeat at the record champions in Wasserburg and the end of the eighth cup final against Keltern, the Göttingen women suffered their third defeat within a week at their home game on Sunday afternoon against the Eisvögel USC Freiburg. In the end there was a 71:82 (46:46).

“We have 17 more throws, but lose the game. We only have eight turnovers and are almost balanced in terms of the rebound ratio, ”said Göttingen’s coach Goran Lojo, disappointed at the end of the game. The guests from the Breisgau, unlike the team from the Göttingen head coach, had no game after the first round of the cup during the week and so went into the encounter more rested.

Especially at the beginning the flippo Baskets played like a substitute compared to the cup game against Keltern. Samantha Roscoe acted particularly noticeably in the first few minutes. When Ivana Blazevic, coming from the bench, attacked the Freiburg basket and worked out the next points for the flippo baskets from the free throw line, the Göttingen leadership had a calming effect.

The hosts’ game suffered a break with the temporary replacement of Jenny Crowder in the middle of the second quarter. The German national player alone contributed 19 points to the 46:46 halftime score and at the end of the game had 38 minutes of playing time. The Göttingen head coach had to do without Sandra Azinovic, who “probably showed her best game in the Göttingen jersey so far” (Lojo) against Keltern. The development player sustained an ankle injury during the final training session, and the exact diagnosis is still pending.

While it was still the third quarter in the cup game against Keltern that distinguished the flippo Baskets, nothing came together against Freiburg, especially in the first four minutes of the game. The Göttingen women distributed pre-Christmas gifts to the guests by failing to score themselves and allowing several offensive rebounds. Sara Kranzhöfer gave the kingfishers a 46:50 lead (24th minute).

After a nice play between Crowder and Roscoe, which in a similar way already provided the first two points of the game, hope came back with the flippo Baskets. Then, however, the Canadian Daneesha Provo took over, against whom Lojo had expressly warned in advance.

The Canadian recently convinced against Heidelberg and Halle (41 and 33 points respectively) and took on more and more responsibility with four successful three-point throws, the last of them with a lot of self-confidence from the run. Another three-point throw from Pauline Mayer finally ensured that the guests from Freiburg could start with a five-point lead in the final quarter (61:66, 30th minute).

As the playing time increased, the flippo baskets had a high initial intensity. Ivana Blazevic, who played again strongly, and then Ruzica Dzankic each shortened the deficit to four points (35th minute) with a successful three-point game. At the latest with Karambatsa’s foul on Provo in the three-point throw, the game was decided.

Coach Lojo conceded a technical foul

Since Lojo complained loudly and also received a technical foul from the good referee duo, Provo again made the decision with four successful free throws. In the end, the top scorer of the DBBL scored 33 points and again made a significant contribution to the fact that her team left the field as the winner.

The win for Freiburg was not undeserved, as the guests decided every game segment for themselves from the second quarter. The performances of Jenny Crowder (22 points) and Ivana Blazevic (19) were too little on the offensive to bring the Freiburg women into serious trouble again.
