Gordon doesn’t think his Blushing coffee chain and The Burger Room burger restaurant could survive if the corona crisis continues for much longer.
“I’ll make it six months anyway, but not any longer,” he says in conversation with HorecaNederland.TV. “Honestly, I don’t think we’ll get back to the old sales when we open again.”
The artist and catering entrepreneur calls the current situation “unreal”. “Almost every entrepreneur will now sit at home with bewilderment.”
Gordon noticed the fear in his staff and guests before the catering in the Netherlands was closed. “I saw a turnaround in turnover and on Sunday morning (the day the measures were announced, ed.) I took the plunge. The future will never be the same again.”
He does put the situation in perspective. “I always think: it’s just money, there are people who are much worse.”
Gordon is currently in home isolation because he takes medications that weaken his immune system. “In my situation, I can’t even go to the supermarket,” says the presenter.
“But I was already quite isolated. The well-known Dutch nationality is one thing for me, so a lot has not changed for me. I can now say to others: you actually have my life now.”
