Google’s Gemini AI Assistant Receives Quick Fixes and Improvements
Just days after the launch of Google’s Gemini AI Assistant and new mobile apps, the company’s product lead for Gemini, Jack Krawczyk, has promised that fixes and improvements will be coming soon. And true to his word, less than a week later, Krawczyk has announced a few Gemini improvements that have already been rolled out.
One of the fixes includes better voice inputs on Android, making it easier for users to interact with the AI assistant. Previously, users had to manually enter their requests after speaking, limiting Gemini’s usefulness as a hands-free assistant. But now, the Gemini app has been updated to automatically enter voice requests after the user has finished speaking, making it feel more similar to using the classic Google Assistant.
Another issue that Google has addressed is the sign-in errors that some users were experiencing. Initially, the Gemini app was limited to the U.S., and users had to change their Android device’s language setting to English in order to sign in. However, this method caused some sign-in errors. Fortunately, Krawczyk assures users that many of these errors have been fixed.
Furthermore, Google has cut down on refusals by roughly half since the launch of Gemini. This means that users are now experiencing fewer instances where Gemini refuses to perform certain tasks. This improvement is particularly significant as it enhances the overall user experience and reliability of the AI assistant.
Gemini’s availability has also expanded. Initially limited to the U.S., it has now launched in more countries, allowing a wider range of users to access its features. Additionally, Gemini is now more widely available to Android users via the Google app and Assistant opt-in. However, Krawczyk notes that the rollout is still in progress and will continue progressively.
Despite these quick fixes and improvements, there are still a few issues that remain unresolved. Krawczyk’s initial list of “things to fix ASAP” included wider support for Assistant tasks, coding help, and the removal of some “preachy” guardrails. While these fixes are presumably still in the works, considering how quickly Google has shipped early Gemini improvements, it is likely that they will be resolved soon.
