Goodbye to Joaquín Galarza, SER Canario award 2015 | BE Las Palmas

Businessman Joaquín Galarza Rehues, born in the neighborhood of La Isleta and named Favorite Son of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 2016, has passed away at 85, has informed the City Council, which regrets his death.

Galarza was recognized in 2015 with the SER Canario award for his business careerl in what was the tenth edition of these awards that were held at the Pérez Galdós theater in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The mayor of the Gran Canaria capital, Augusto Hidalgo, has conveyed on behalf of the municipal government group his condolences to the family and loved ones of this businessman, who “left an important legacy in the city” as founder of the Galaco Group, which integrates Galaco SA and Cadiex SL, and which treasured an experience of more than 50 years, informs the City Council in a statement.

As the councilor recalled, his career consolidated your company “as a benchmark in the Canary Islands for the import and distribution of leading brands in the market”, thanks to his spirit of being an entrepreneur, self-taught and who has generated “a great deal of wealth in the archipelago”.

At the regional level, Galarza has managed to build a group of companies that has dedicated itself, essentially, to importing and distributing products all over the world to offer them to its consumers on the islands, “positioning the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the archives and records of many international companies, “said Hidalgo.

Joaquín Galarza began his professional career on June 1, 1962, the date on which he registered as a commercial agent and began his career as an entrepreneur, with various product representations.

Around 1965, it took over the representation of the Móstoles Industrial factory, which produced Forlady kitchen furniture.

On September 22, 1967, Don Ramón Areces, founder of El Corte Inglés SA, granted him representative power and it is at this time that he began to operate under the commercial name and brand Comercial JG

In December 1977, he acquired the business of Del Río Falcón, who distributed important trademarks such as Whiskey J&B, Cognac Hennesy and Oil Huilor, among others.

Comercial Galarza, SA was created in December 1982, changing its company name in September 1986, when it was renamed Comercial J.Galarza, SA.

In the 90’s and after the recovery of the economic-financial situation, it continues its expansion, making the leap to the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and diversifying in other businesses, in particular, in the industrial sector with the aim of producing and have their own brands.

In September 1994, it constitutes a group of companies made up of three divisions: Comercial J. Galarza, Cadiex SL Comercial Marfe SA Actualidades SA and Cofuer SA; Services, Poster, Image and Communication, SL and Industrial, Production of own brands. Finally, on September 2, 1997, the merger by incorporation of the companies Comercial Galarza SA and the subsidiary of a Multinational Swiss Atlantic, SA took place, thus establishing the company Galarza Atlántico, Galaco SA.

Since 2000, Joaquín Galarza had developed his business, essentially concentrated in the import and commercial distribution sectors, as well as logistics services, with the companies Galarza Atlántico, Galaco SA and its subsidiary Canarias Distribuciones Exclusivas Cadiex SL, of which he was president of its Council.

On the occasion of his extensive experience and his contribution to the generation of wealth in the municipality and throughout the Canary Islands, the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria named Joaquín Galarza in 2016 as Favorite Son of the City, in recognition of his great career and work.
