One antibody named S2H97 stands out for its ability to adhere to the binding domain tested by the researchers. S2H97 or known as pan-sarbecovirus antibody, is able to prevent various variants of SARS-CoV-2 and other sarbecoviruses.

“That’s the coolest antibody we’ve ever described,” said Tyler Starr, a biochemist at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington.

Further examination of the molecular structure of S2H97 was found if this antibody targets a never-before-seen part hidden in the binding domain.

Starr revealed that molecules that target this part of the binding domain can provide protection against many viruses. So it might someday be used in a pan-sarbecovirus vaccine.
