City council meetings are often boring, but if the mayor brings his baby with him, they become a Monday thriller. There was also alcohol, promises and surprises.

The city council meetings are often like conference calls during the Corona crisis: boring, take far too long and in the end, little comes out. Last Monday, at the first meeting of the new city council in Wrzburg, it was truly different. After four hours, there were only two new full-time mayors, a resolution against anti-Semitism and a first look at the OB baby, who, along with his mother, had a place of honor in the front row. But the entertainment factor was even higher than Wolfgang Roth’s already increased blood pressure when Judith Jrg was elected third mayor.
For ZfW City Councilor Wolfgang Baumann, who was actually completely uninvolved in the deal between the Greens and the CSU, had suddenly nominated the Green Group leader, Barbara Lehrieder, as Jrgs candidate, and made the Mayor’s election an early Monday thriller.
Matthias Pilz, negotiator of the Greens, jumped up immediately to place his fellow party members in order to remind them of the deal. When counting, the voltage was then at the boiling point. Even little Leonard Justus Bastian Schuchardt, who had previously shouted a few times to the delight of his father (he probably only disagreed with his father’s decisions), was silent. The fact that the mayor wanted to announce the result even though a stack of ballot papers was still missing did not calm his nerves.
No hug for Adi Bauer
Ultimately, it was still enough for Jrg and Mayor Schuchardt was allowed to say goodbye to the outgoing honorary mayors. While he would have liked to hug Schfer-Blake (SPD) because of the great cooperation, but was not allowed to because of Corona, the city chief emphasized that he would not get around with his CSU colleague Bauer anyway. Bauer, who is giving up his post as mayor after 24 years, also received a vote in the election.
If the city council had already agreed on two new full-time mayors, it would have been nice to say goodbye to Bauer creating a job as honorary mayor to open wine festivals. He would have had my voice.

Speaking of alcohol. For the youngest newly elected city councils, memories of their prom were probably coming up at the CCW. Because while city councilor Niklas Dehne (Grne) was enjoying a dark cyclist in the session, Rena Schimmer (CSU) appeared in a smart dress and with high heels, ready to hover over the dance floor.
Westphal: Schweinfurt instead of Wrzburg
At the end of the session, Kerstin Westphal (SPD) made a laugh. During her remarkable speech on the resolution against racism and discrimination, the former city councilor from Schweinfurt made an embarrassing mistake. She said Schweinfurt and not Wrzburg, so even the mayor shook his head. For real.
