A case of arbovirus, these tropical diseases such as chikungunya, dengue or zika virus, in particular transmitted by the tiger mosquito, was detected in Artigues-pres-Bordeaux (Gironde), a few days ago. The authorities therefore carried out a mosquito control operation on the night of August 21 to 22.
This intervention aimed to eradicate tiger mosquitoes from this area, in order to avoid any risk of the disease spreading, reports Bordeaux news.
The tiger mosquito is “everyone’s business”
The operation was organized by the Regional Health Agency (ARS), as provided for in the health protocol, and was entrusted to a private company. The residents were warned by mail, assures the town hall in a message posted on its Facebook page:
This message aroused the annoyance of some residents who criticized, on social networks, municipal services for restricting the operation to a district and not to extend it to the entire municipality.
“This operation was ordered by the ARS, therefore by the State. It follows the precise protocol decreed by the health authorities in the event of transmission ”, replied the town hall, quoted by Bordeaux news. However, the town hall recalls that “Everyone’s business”. Hunting stagnant water is therefore the best way to fight against these insects.
