Slovenian cyclist Matej Mohorič from the Bahrain-Victorious team announced the day after a serious fall at the Giro d’Italia that he was very lucky and escaped without any serious injuries.

The 26-year-old fell in Sunday’s 9th stage when his rear wheel slipped during the descent from the mountain premium to Passo Godi, he did a somersault, hit so hard that his bike broke in half, and hit his head on the tarmac when he fell. After a severe collision, he got to his feet and wanted to continue at first, but in the end he had to be taken by ambulance and ended up on Gire.
He suffered a mild concussion and a large amount of abrasions, but suffered no fractures and avoided other serious injuries. “I’m okay. I misjudged the curve, the rear wheel slipped, which I was able to hold, but then I hit a stone curb and flew over the handlebars. My bike and helmet took the hardest impact and I was very lucky. No broken bones, mild concussion and currently no headaches. My condition is monitored by our medical team.
