Giant letters Z and V were placed outside the US Embassy in Moscow. The two military tactical signs used by the Russian army have become the main symbols of Russia’s war in Ukraine, AFP reported, citing BTA.
The letters were placed in tribute to the Russian tanks and armored vehicles that entered Ukraine in February 2022. Since then, they have appeared regularly on posters and on television and have been written by supporters of the so-called special military operation of Russia.
Giant white Z and V symbols were seen today on the sidewalk outside the US Embassyon one of the Russian capital’s main boulevards, an AFP photographer noted, although it was unclear who had placed the symbols.
In the past, Russian nationalist activists have projected glowing slogans onto the facade of the US embassy or organized other similar actions.
Several Western countries have decided to rename streets where Russian embassies are located in support of Ukraine or the Russian opposition.
In Washington, for example, the street on which the Russian embassy is located was renamed in honor of the opposition leader Boris Nemtsov, who was killed in 2015 near the Kremlin, according to AFP.
