It’s a true tale of the high seas that ends on Monday: the cargo ship “Alta”, which has become a sort of pelagic legend over the years, has reached its final destination. The vessel has been drifting since the Coast Guard rescued its crew off Bermuda in October 2018.
He was last seen in early September, drifting in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The British Royal Navy then tried to establish contact, to no avail.
Her journey ended on February 17, 2020, a stormy day, running aground near Ballycotton, an Irish fishing village. Almost intact, the ship landed gently against the rocky mass after a journey of several thousand kilometers.
