‘GGD temporarily stops corona bladder test due to incorrect test results’

The GGD has temporarily stopped performing the corona bladder test, reports RTL News. The decision was taken because of a number of incorrect test results at the GGD Amsterdam. It was actually intended that that quick breath test also in the coming months the rest of the Netherlands would be deployed.

Instead of using a cotton swab deep in the nose, this test involves blowing into a device. After a trial period, the test was officially used at two test locations in Amsterdam since the end of January. According to the GGD, the rapid breath test had proven its effect in practice and it was very reliable.

Wrong test result

But now the GGD says that some have received the wrong test result. “Last week it turned out that a few people after a negative breath test shortly afterwards got a positive result with a PCR test,” a spokesman for the GGD Amsterdam told RTL Nieuws. “No test is 100 percent reliable, but because this is a new test, we are err on the side of caution and temporarily stop.”

The wrong test results would come from incorrectly taking the breath test. “More attention is needed for this. After consultation with experts, an extra test phase will probably follow to check the points for improvement”, reports RTL Nieuws.
