German Railway Strike Causes Longer Journey Times for International Trains in Hungary – March 2024 Update

Several international trains departing from or arriving in Hungary should expect longer journey times from Wednesday to Friday due to the planned work stoppage on German railways, Mávinform reads. on his Facebook page.

According to the information of the German railway company, Deutsche Bahn (DB), there will be a strike in Germany on Thursday, March 7, from 2:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday. During this time, long-distance and regional traffic on the German railway network should be expected to experience significant disruptions and longer travel times.

The strike affects the following trains between March 6-8:

  • Kálmán Imre EuroNight, which forwards direct trains from Stuttgart,
  • a Munich Railjet xpress,
  • the Metropol EuroNight, which transfers direct trains to Berlin,
  • the Hungária EuroCity trains in Hamburg.

Deutsche Bahn (DB) advises passengers to postpone their journey or choose another travel option if possible. Those traveling to Germany should consult the DB and MÁV information platforms and customer services.

Tickets and seat reservations for travel to, from, or through Germany redeemed by Thursday or Friday, March 4, can be redeemed free of charge or used until March 15. Tickets can be validated at other times at international ticket offices.
