German league maintains restart despite Dresden quarantine

The German Football League maintains the restart of the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga in a week after the quarantine for the entire SG Dynamo Dresden team. “We are not currently changing the goal, only the plans,” said DFL managing director Christian Seifert on Saturday in the “current sports studio” of ZDF. The goal is to end the season.

The quarantine for Dynamo is currently no reason to question the continuation of the second division.

In the afternoon, he learned that the Saxon club had tested two other professionals for the corona virus in the third series of tests. The first series of tests had been positive. The responsible health authority in Dresden then ordered a 14-day quarantine at home. This means that the bottom team Dynamo Dresden can neither compete against Hannover 96 away on May 17, nor receive the SpVgg Greuther Fürth in their home stadium the following weekend.

The club of the Austrian Sascha Horvath did not mention the names of the players concerned with reference to privacy. “The fact is that we can neither train nor participate in the game in the next 14 days,” said Dynamo sports manager Ralf Minge.

The concept of resuming the game, which should take place in a week, only provided a quarantine for the player who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. Seifert affirmed on ZDF that it had always been emphasized that the local health authorities would decide.

It was also hypothetical to talk about what would happen if it also happened in other cities or with other teams. He doesn’t interpret that as a setback either. “It was completely clear that this could happen,” said Seifert.
