German IS supporter to blow up wild mosques and Turkish consulate

Germany may have escaped a series of terrorist attacks. A man arrested two weeks ago for vandalism and arson at Turkish stores had far-reaching plans for bomb attacks on Turkish targets in Germany, including mosques and a consulate. The suspect, a supporter of the Islamic State, has made several confessions since his arrest.

On May 8, 25-year-old Muharrem D. was accidentally arrested on a train in the state of Bavaria. He had not bought a ticket. It soon became clear that he had more on his tack than riding a car and some drug-related offenses. He turned out to have a suitcase and a sports bag with ten ready-made pipe bombs and a load of explosive chemicals.

The police immediately linked D. to a series of incidents in nearby Waldkraiburg. In mid-April, stones flew through the windows of three Turkish companies. A greengrocer went up in flames, injuring people and several Turkish families living above the property could only be rescued just in time.
