The German Football Association (DFB) has said it will have the design of the numbers on the national team’s new kits modified. He responded to criticism that the number 4, or 44, resembles the runes used by SS units during Nazi Germany.
“The DFB will check numbers 0-9 and then send numbers 1-26 to UEFA for review. No one involved in the creation of the jersey noticed any resemblance to Nazi symbolism,” the association’s representatives wrote on the X social network. for discussion, so we’ll have an alternative design of number 4 created.”
The jersey manufacturer Adidas also reacted to the criticism, blocking the possibility to create a personalized jersey with the number 44 in its online store. No German national team plays with it.
The kits, which Germany’s footballers will wear at their home European Championships in June and July, debuted last week in warm-up matches against France and the Netherlands.
