Gergely Karácsony would tax the whole country with the traffic jam fee

Huge traffic jams formed in Budapest due to the dilettante decisions of the helpless mayor, Gergely Karácsony. The huge disruptions were largely due to bad decisions and partly deliberate. The international news agency V4NA has been informed that the purpose of the Christmas wedge is to introduce the Budapest congestion fee, which would be paid to commuters from the countryside and those living in the outer districts.

According to V4NA’s Brussels informant, it is planned to introduce a congestion charge in the Hungarian capital. Budapest’s traffic has collapsed in recent weeks, several important routes have been closed, the renovation of the Chain Bridge has begun, new bus and bicycle lanes have been created, and the existing, otherwise unused bicycle lanes have not been returned to motorists.Because of this, the huge traffic jams in the capital have become permanent.

According to a Brussels source, this is no accident, it is preparing for the introduction of the congestion charge, and false citizens are launching a campaign to demand its introduction. In this way, the balliberal mayor will be able to crack down on motorists in Budapest on the grounds that he is doing so at the request of the people of Budapest. V4NA turned to the Mayor’s Office with questions about this, but in their Pökhend response, the questions were described as provocation.

However, it turned out that a non-governmental organization called the Air Working Group had already launched a “Toll to Budapest!” campaign and petition for the introduction of the prize.

The City Hall also has a good relationship with the Air Task Force. After his election, Mayor Gergely Karácsony symbolically handed over the key to the City Hall to the NGOs. “We gave this office back to those who actually belonged to the people of Budapest,” he said at the time. Among the invited NGOs, the Air Working Group was also there.

V4NA has therefore once again written to the mayor, who, however, continues to deny that the toll would be introduced.

Otherwise, the Air Task Force suggested that the level of tolls would depend on five factors: the length of the journey, the vehicle’s environmental rating, the vehicle’s axle load, the route (e.g. higher in the city center than in the suburbs) and the period (higher than outside during peak hours) .

Budapest’s climate strategy also includes the introduction of a congestion charge. The document writes about the emission-proportionate collection fee just like the Environmental Protection Program of the Hungarian capital for the period 2021-2026.

However, several point out that

with the Budapest congestion charge, they would actually penalize the rural people.

Workers commuting from the countryside and the agglomeration, visitors to Budapest who come to the capital for shopping, excursions, theater or medical treatment. But Budapesters who come from the outer districts to work in the inner districts of the city should also have to pay.
