Said Gergely Gulyás, the head of the Prime Minister’s Office, said that we would soon be approaching a number of cases similar to last summer. According to him, this is mainly due to the fact that there was not a single vaccine among the new deaths the other day.
He said most of the registrants are protected or vaccinated, and those who are not are because they have been infected. Goulash encourages them to vaccinate themselves, because according to international science, those who have contracted the disease can also be vaccinated.
We managed to include 54% of Hungarian society, so we are close to social immunity. According to him, the protection rate is certainly above 60% today, but it can be as high as 65-70%.
The minister continues to urge everyone to vaccinate themselves. “All vaccinations are effective, the differences in effectiveness are small,” Goulash said, and the difference compared to the disease is extremely small.
With regard to social immunity, it is worth emphasizing that it only prevents the epidemic spread of the virus, but does not mean that an individual would enjoy full protection by legally re-infecting an area. Only vaccinations can provide that. It is also important that experts raise the level of flock immunity to much higher, above 80% vaccination, with the emergence of new virus variants, while the rate of vaccination has slowed significantly. Thus, we cannot be sure that we will reach the level of vaccination required for social immunity by the beginning of autumn.
