Georgian court jails two Ukrainians over border trespass

As noted on the website of the body, citizens of Ukraine are accused of illegally crossing the Georgian state border, as a result of which Yuri Khomich and Vladimir Dyachenko were imprisoned for up to four years.

In order not to interfere in the process of legal proceedings of a foreign country, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called the Charge d’Affaires of Georgia to express his disappointment with the decision of the Batumi City Court. The Foreign Ministry, for its part, is convinced that the verdict is not fair and insists that Georgia reconsider the court’s decision.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Embassy of Ukraine in Georgia will continue to take all necessary measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of our citizens, who will exercise their right to file an appeal, in accordance with the legislation of Georgia,” the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
