Commemoration of the second anniversary of the collapse of the Morandi bridge in the Clearing of Memory, under the new Genoa San Giorgio bridge. It is a private moment, reserved for the families of the victims, characterized by a children’s ballet, closed to cameras and journalists.
Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte arrived in the Glade of Memory to participate in the commemoration of the 43 people who lost their lives in the collapse of the ‘Morandi’ viaduct on 14 August 2018.

In a letter to the XIX Century, and also reported by La Stampa, the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella he invited to “develop and rebuild a reliable culture of safety, adequate maintenance and control that involves and empowers companies, public bodies, local and national institutions, universities, the world of research”. “Their just request for truth and justice for their loved ones, swallowed up by the collapse of the Bridge, was accompanied by the strong and painful exhortation that similar disasters be avoided in every way in the future with new mourning and new victims”, explains the president of the Repubblica recalls the meeting with “some representatives of the victims’ families” shortly before the inauguration of the new bridge.
A “tragedy of this kind” must not be repeated again, says the premier Conte interviewed by La Stampa. “The participation of the State in Autostrade goes in this direction – he observes – because it will contribute to ensuring more controls and safety on our network”. “Our infrastructures are a precious public good – he underlines -, we will no longer allow this principle to be trampled on”. To the families of the victims he said: “I guarantee the commitment to a more scrupulous attention to public infrastructures”.
“Today the day will be all for the memory of the victims of the collapse of the Morandi bridge, even the plaque that we will discover in Tursi has this meaning, but today another message must start from Genoa, a warning, so that the human, financial and technologies to ensure that the infrastructures are not only beautiful but also safe “, said the mayor of Genoa and commissioner for the reconstruction of the viaduct, Marco Bucci, before attending the mass of suffrage for the victims of the bridge.

“We are here to remind you that the families of the 43 victims of the Morandi bridge deserve respect – wrote the Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio, on Facebook -. This is why an agreement was reached to remove the Benettons from the management of Autostrade. But if someone thinks of retracing their steps, they will always find our resistance. We will be constantly vigilant, daily. The revocation remains on the table, it has never been ruled out. Justice will be done definitively only when the Benettons are totally out of Aspi. The state has a duty to protect its citizens, it has a duty to secure the country. The state must prove that it exists. Always”.
