A political scientist attributes a herpes outbreak in the genital area to her visit to “Markus Lanz”. “Male brutality” was the main problem.
A weakened defense is often the cause of herpes on the mouth or nose. The blisters typical of herpes can even appear on the eyes or in the genital area, which can become inflamed, tear and ooze. Many of those affected then not only suffer from severe pain, but also from the unsightly appearance of the rash. The cause of the disease is an infection with herpes viruses.
According to the Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG), genital herpes is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases. The controversial ex-university professor Ulrike Guérot is also affected, as she publicly announced. For many, an outing that is perceived as courageous – but the message is polarizing at the same time.
Many people are infected with herpes viruses without developing symptoms
It is estimated that two out of three people are infected with herpes viruses. However, many do not notice this because they do not notice any symptoms due to an intact immune system. As the Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG) informs, herpes breaks out in only 90 out of 100 infected people.
“I got off this show and actually had vaginal herpes”
So Guérot states that the genital herpes on a visit to the ZDF talk format “Markus Lanz“ is due. In an interview with the entrepreneur Petra Führich on her YouTube channel, Guérot explained: “I left this show and actually had herpes on my vagina”. She also attributed this affliction to the “male brutality” she said she experienced during the 2022 show.

In fact, on Markus Lanz’s talk show, Guérot was pressured by the other male and female talk guests and Lanz because of the positions she represents. But can the stress caused by this promote intimate herpes?
Do stressful situations trigger herpes outbreaks?
Although infection with herpes viruses does not cause symptoms in most people, some experience recurrent herpes-induced rashes. Possible triggers for recurring outbreaks of genital herpes have hardly been researched so far, as the Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care informs. However, there are indications that permanent mental stress could promote outbreaks.
In the case of cold sores, stress is even considered one of the most important trigger factors, according to the Pharmazeutische Zeitung. This would show several epidemiological studies.
The extent to which stress in Ulrike Guérot was actually the trigger for herpes in the genital area has not been confirmed by doctors. A connection is theoretically possible.
