Geneva: The City announces the reopening of its markets – News Geneva: Geneva news

This is probably good news for all lovers of fresh and local products, since all the food markets of the City of Geneva reopen this Monday, May 11. The only exception is that the Caves market will remain closed, as the authorities consider it more of a gathering place than a place to buy. This reopening decision has been validated by the Council of State.

Regarding sanitary measures, merchants will be required to respect and have respected the protection plan defined by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco). In summary, they should wear gloves when handling vegetables or fruits, and protective masks when preparing cooked meals. As for customers, they must stand two meters away from the stalls without the possibility of being able to touch fruit and vegetables. This distance of two meters must also be respected in the queues.

“We worked very quickly to be able to open the markets on May 11,” explains the magistrate in charge of the Urban Environment Guillaume Barazzone. It is important to allow our producers to sell their local products and customers to buy them. This puts an end to the unequal treatment between supermarkets and markets. ”

Finally, remember that the flea market will also reopen.
