Geneva: PLR Simon Brandt drops his deputy mandate – News Switzerland: French-speaking Switzerland

Candidate for the executive of the City of Geneva, the PLR Simon Brandt resigns from his mandate as deputy to the Grand Council. This long-announced decision is not related to his recent prevention for breach of official secrecy, he said.

Double mandate

Contacted by Keystone-ATS, Simon Brandt confirmed his resignation revealed Friday by RTS. “I had indicated that I would resign after the lists were tabled for the municipal elections,” said Brandt. This decision was communicated to his party in the fall of 2018.

Simon Brandt wants to devote himself to his mandate as a municipal councilor and to his campaign for the Administrative Council. He has so far benefited from a waiver on the part of his party to assume a dual mandate in the Grand Council and City Council. The waiver would have ended in two months, said Simon Brandt.

Violation of official secrecy

Simon Brandt was arrested in mid-December and released the same day. The public prosecutor suspects him of violation of the secrecy of function. The elected official would have forwarded to a third party police data to which he would have had access thanks to his function as collaborator of the strategic analysis service in this institution.

Simon Brandt disputes these accusations. He also firmly rejects the suspicions that he worked for the State Councilor Pierre Maudet who appointed him to the police. His party maintained his full confidence in him. Simon Brandt is seeking a seat on the Administrative Council of the City of Geneva, the first round of which will take place on March 15. (Ps / nxp)
