Salou Djibo, retired General, has been chosen by his party as a candidate for the presidential elections next December in Niger

The former head of the military junta who led a transition after a coup, in 2010, was chosen Sunday by his party to run for the supreme magistracy in Niger.

The presidential elections which will be coupled with the legislative will be organized at the end of this year 2020.

He had withdrawn from the Nigerian political scene after having handed over the presidential charges to the current president Issifou Mahamadou elected in 2011 then re-elected in 2016.

President Issifou, at the end of his mandate, is not in the race in accordance with the Nigerian constitution which limits the mandate to 5 years renewable only once.
