Gaza: The first ship, which sailed from Cyprus, arrived with a cargo of humanitarian aid – 2024-03-17 10:07:50

The first ship to carry humanitarian aid to Gaza Stripwhich sailed from Cyprus, began unloading its 200-ton cargo of food in Gaza, the NGO’s spokeswoman told AFP Open Arms which is responsible for the business.

World Central Kitchen “unloads the barge now moored at the temporary wharf,” which was built southwest of Gaza City.

The ship “Open Arms”, of the Spanish NGO, transports 200 tons of humanitarian aid, specifically food, to Gaza in collaboration with the NGO World Central Kitchen (WCK).

In a statement, the Israeli army stressed that troops were “deployed for the security of the area”.

“The ship underwent a full security check,” added the military, which said the entry of humanitarian aid “does not violate” the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip since 2007.

The Open Arms sailed on Tuesday from Larnaca bound for Gaza through a humanitarian sea corridor opened by Cyprus. The cargo of 200 tons of food (rice, flour, canned goods) is provided by World Central Kitchen.

World Central Kitchen, of which the United Arab Emirates is a partner, is currently loading around 300 tons of food onto another ship in Larnaca.

According to the Cyprus News Agency, a second larger ship, the “Jennifer”, which is also a WCK mission, and is in the port of Larnaca, was expected to leave today for Gaza. However, the ICO did not confirm the departure of the second ship.
