Gaza. Israel strikes again after incendiary balloon fire

The army israeli on Thursday announced new strikes against Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip in retaliation for the fire of incendiary balloons, all despite the efforts of theEgypt in an attempt to ease tensions between the two camps.

The Hebrew state has bombed the Gaza Strip almost every night since August 6 in response to the launching of incendiary balloons, or more rarely rocket attacks, from this Palestinian enclave of two million inhabitants to Israel.

Israel also tightened its blockade on Gaza, in force for more than a decade, by prohibiting Gazan fishermen from going out to sea and by closing the only point of passage for goods between Gaza and Israel, which has hampered fuel deliveries. and contributed to the “Complete closure” Tuesday of the only power station in this Palestinian territory.

On Thursday morning, shortly after midnight, the IDF announced in a brief statement that its “Tanks had targeted Hamas military posts” in the Gaza Strip after gunfire “Incendiary balloons” from this territory to Israel.

These exchanges of fire took place after the visit to Gaza and Israel of a delegation from Egypt, an Arab country bordering this Palestinian territory and having already signed peace with the Hebrew state (1979), and had notably played the intermediary last year to promote a truce between the two camps.

But despite this truce, which notably provided for monthly financial aid of around $ 30 million paid by the Emirate of Qatar to Gaza, Hamas and Israel clash sporadically.

Rockets and incendiary balloons, for example, have been fired in recent months from Gaza towards Israel in order to push the Jewish state to allow the transit of these sums or, more generally, to try to lift the blockade.

But the truce also provided for the financing of development projects in the Gaza Strip and the granting of work permits in Israel to Gaza workers in order to give a little oxygen to the economy in this enclave where the unemployment rate is around 50%, of which more than 65% among young people.

However, according to corroborating sources interviewed by AFP, it is on these issues, and not the delivery of aid from Qatar, that the talks are blocking.

Clashes over the past two weeks have left a few injured but no fatalities, according to Israeli and Gaza sources.
