Members of the Gaula of the Metropolitan Police of Barranquilla managed to capture an alleged extortionist in flagrante delicto in the Las Margaritas neighborhood of the municipality of Soledad, Atlántico, at a time when he was collecting a ‘vaccine’ that a merchant paid him for the sum of $500,000 pesos.
According to the report delivered by the Metropolitan Police of Barranquilla, the person captured today identified himself as a member of a Common Organized Criminal Group and, in this way, he pressured the payment of extortions from merchants, mostly through WhatsApp.
Likewise, it was also determined that the subject had notes for the crime of extortion, leading to the seizure of $500,000 pesos in cash and a cell phone on which he allegedly carried out his criminal actions.
“This captured person identified himself as a member of a Common Organized Criminal Group and pressured the payment of extortion to a merchant via WhatsApp messaging. Likewise, this subject presents notes for the crime of extortion, and in the development of this operation managed to seize $500,000 and a cell phone,” the armed institution detailed in a statement.
In this sense, the Metropolitan Police of Barranquilla reported that it will continue to carry out these operations in order to counteract the crime of extortion, inviting the community to report any fact that endangers the life and integrity of the civilian population through the emergency line 123 or the police number of the nearest quadrant.
