Gastro-Demo “Empty Chairs”: Other cities follow suit

Dresden leads the way – does Germany follow? On Friday, hosts, hoteliers and event organizers had set up over 1,000 empty chairs on the Neumarkt.

The private initiative “Empty Chairs” drew attention to the precarious situation in the industry (TAG24 reported).

A second day of action is scheduled for April 24 (11 a.m.). This time not only in Dresden.

“We hope that other cities will join,” says initiator Kathleen Parma (56, networksPR).

Innkeepers in Thuringia, Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Nuremberg have already agreed (info / contact: www.leere-stuehle.de).

The objectives of the campaign: Lower VAT to seven percent, increase short-time work benefits, emergency aid for companies with over ten employees.

“But we are not only demanding, we also want to help solve the problem,” said Ute Stöhr, spokeswoman for the initiative.

A catalog of measures to facilitate the opening of the catering trade is in progress.

Where the action will take place in Dresden on Friday is still unclear. Parma: “We are also checking whether we have to register the setting up of the chairs as a demonstration.”
