Gasoline ran into sewerage: scooter hobbyist triggers mega-explosion – domestic news

Würzburg – A Syrian (25) from Karlstadt (Bavaria) wanted to save the money for the workshop, tinkered with two friends on his scooter – and triggered a violent explosion!

Boooooom – suddenly manhole covers flew into the air, water shot up from toilets and sinks in surrounding houses.

Manhole cover flew three feet up

“I thought a bomb exploded,” says resident Erika Ehrenfels (84). She lives across from the farm where the Syrians worked. “I saw how a manhole cover was thrown about three feet high and a flame came out of the shaft.” In her apartment, the water splashed from the toilet. “It stank of gasoline,” says the pensioner.

▶ ︎According to the police, about two liters of gasoline leaked during the repair of the scooter and seeped into the rain drain, where it evaporated. This created an extremely flammable gasoline-air mixture in the sewer system.

“I didn’t notice anything leaked,” the Syrian told BILD. When he tried to start the scooter again, he set off the explosion. He and his friends were unharmed. The 25-year-old is now being investigated for negligent causing an explosive.
