A week characterized by falls in fuel prices is coming to a close: compared to last Friday, the national averages dropped by over 6 cents per liter for petrol and over 7 for diesel. The good news, however, ends here because the bearish phase in place for about a month – with the exception of the increase in excise duties at the beginning of December, the effects of which were quickly absorbed – it seems to be drawing to a close. For a week now, the international prices of refined products have started to rise again with increasing strength, while the barrel of Brent has returned above $80. The week leading up to Christmas therefore risks being characterized by an increase in fuel prices at the pump. All with the usual uncertainties related to the oil markets, including the prospect of a slowdown in the world economy, one eye on the rise in interest rates and one on the trend in inflation which seems to have passed its peak.
