“Gas Leaks on Equinor’s Norne Ship: Over 80 Employees Forced into Lifeboats Twice in 24 Hours”

More than 80 employees who work on the Norne ship have had to go into the lifeboats twice in the last 24 hours due to gas leaks.

Published:

Both gas leaks occurred about 12 hours apart on Monday on the gas production ship Norne, which is operated by Equinor.

– The first happened around 02:00 last night and the second happened at 14:00, in connection with the fact that we were going to restart the plant after it was stopped last night, says press contact Ellen Maria Skjelsbæk at Equinor to VG.

The alarm went off with both gas leaks, she says. More than 80 people work on the platform.

– Then we mustered personnel for the lifeboats, in line with instructions. We don’t want people to be exposed to gas or other danger, so that’s why we muster, she says.

No one was injured by the leaks.

Equinor is now working to investigate the cause of the leaks and to rectify any errors.
