Garzón sees “unacceptable” police action against climate scientists who protested before Congress

MADRID, 15 (EUROPA PRESS)

The Minister of Consumption and leader of IU, Alberto Garzón, has branded as “completely unacceptable” the police action before a dozen scientists, after his protest on April 6 at the gates of Congress to alert about passivity in the face of climate change .

“These are scientists and social activists who with their actions are warning of the serious danger that climate change and the eco-social crisis pose to life. This ‘institutional response’ is totally out of place,” Garzón launched on Twitter.

Previously, the spokesman for United We Can in Congress, Pablo Echenique, has requested “explanations, apologies and withdrawal of charges” for these scientific activists. “And quickie”, he has demanded it.

As explained by the group Scientific Rebellion (Scientist Rebellion Spain), more than ten people have been called to testify before the National Police, in different cities for the action of non-violent civil disobedience, who carried out this vindictive action to protest against the “inaction “of governments in the face of the climate crisis. To do this, they simulated throwing blood, which was actually fake, biodegradable and made from a mixture of water and beets.

The IU federal spokeswoman, Sira Rego, has described as “unacceptable” that the Police be deployed “in the face of non-violent action”, which she treats as “a threat to those who warn of real dangers” such as climate change.
