Gary Lineker and Piers Morgan argue about David Beckham’s qualities

Journalist Piers Morgan and former English top striker Gary Lineker fought a hot duel on Twitter. The subject of this was another English football icon – David Beckham.

It all started after Morgan shared a photo with newly crowned Super Bowl winner Odell Beckham Jr. of the Los Angeles Rams wrote: “Nice to see a Beckham who can play football too.” David Beckham was meant by the one who apparently can’t play.

Lineker did not want to leave this statement uncommented. “You may not like him for some reason, but David Beckham was a great footballer. One of our best,” replied the 80-cap Lineker.

Once they got going, Morgan and Lineker couldn’t stop themselves. “You might want to endear yourself to him for whatever reason, but Beckham is the most overrated player in history,” wrote Morgan, who went on to claim that for Beckham in Arsenal’s 2003/2004 winning team – the so-called Invincibles – not even a seat on the bench would have been free. To assess this statement: Morgan is considered a supporter of the Gunners.

For Lineker, these claims were apparently something like lese majeste. He listed Beckham’s titles and achievements: “Winning the Premier League six times, the FA Cup twice, the Champions League once, La Liga and Ligue 1 once, Ballon d’Or runners-up, 115 caps for England – 59 of which as captain. ” In addition, Beckham was one of the best flankers. What he thought was “overrated” by Morgan’s statement, Lineker showed with an emoji showing a man holding his hand in front of his head.
