Gangster action inside SurabayaEast Java, according to the public, has become more and more of a concern of late.
Most recently, dozens of teenagers carrying sharp weapons in a convoy attacked a bar (warkop) in Keputih area, Surabaya on Friday (2/12) early morning.
However, local residents got into a fight and dozens of teenagers suspected of being gangsters were captured by the residents.
A witness residing in R (23) area said that the gangster group was originally a convoy from Medokan direction heading to Jalan Keputih. They rode dozens of motorcycles.
Arriving in the Keputih area, R said, the gangsters then attacked one of the warkops which was still operational, on Friday at around 0400 WIB in the morning.
“There were dozens of motorcycles, they came from the direction of Medokan and they were going straight to Keputih, aiming directly at the warkop. Its objective was to attack the warkop,” R said when contacted on Friday (2/12).
R said, the gangster then screwed up the warkop. Then the surprised visitors ran. Some items belonging to one of the visitors, such as mobile phones and briefcases, were also reportedly seized.
After attacking the warkop, the gangster was then intercepted by local residents carrying bamboo and wooden sticks.
R said residents along with surrounding youth organizations had been on call for the past few days. Because this kind of gangster attack also happened a month ago.
When intercepted by residents, the teenagers then fled towards Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) and Jalan Kalisari Damen. The citizens chased after him.
“When the intersection was stopped by people. Then it became two groups, one towards Jalan Kalisari Damen, the other towards ITS campus,” he said.
An action chase ensued. The residents then managed to arrest 13 teenagers of the gang in three different places. Not long after, members of the Sukolilo police arrived and arrested them.
R explained, since the arrest, the gangster group was found to be carrying a number of sharp weapons and bamboo. Currently, the perpetrators and evidence have been taken to the Sukolilo Police.
“He was captured in three places, in the ITS campus, Puncak Kertajaya Apartments, the same on Jalan Kalisari Damen, in the direction of Pakuwon City. After being arrested he was immediately taken to Sukolilo Police,” she explained.
Mirzal Maulana, head of Surabaya Police Criminal Investigation Unit (AKBP), confirmed the incident. He said the incident was handled by the Sukolilo police.
“Yes, at Sukolilo Police, the process is under review. The data is still there,” Mirzal said on confirmation Friday afternoon.
Sukolilo Police Chief Kompol M Sholeh admitted he could not make his statement. When confirmed, his party was still holding meetings with Keputih residents.
“I’m still meeting with Keputih residents, first with the head of the criminal investigation unit, we’ll split the tasks, or later,” Sholeh said.
